What does it mean to be an individual...conformist...? Isn't individualism conforming to the idea of not conforming. What ever it is, being your own person is your decision. We can take whatever society and the media gives us, but its our decision whether or not to use it. High school is one of those places where you really have to learn how to make your own decisions, to become your own person, but it is also one of the hardest places to accomplish that task. There are so many distractions that can keep from yourself... school, peers,etc.. I believe high school is just a page we turn to get from one point of life to another, it shouldn't page that can  turn the story of our life into a tragedy. However, like "The Box Man" tradgedy can be defined differently than just the stereotypical situtations. I think this part of your life should bring you joy as well as life lessons that give you wisdom to keep your pages well bound no matter how many pages you turn.
